Thank you to everyone who attended our first annual Running Stars BBQ Event! The support that we have received from the community never ceases to amaze us. We hope everyone enjoyed themselves (and the food)! This was a great way to kick off the summer!

Upcoming Event Information:

  • We will be hosting a walk on Friday, April 30th at 7 pm in Brooklyn Bridge Park. We are meeting near Ample Hills Creamery (1 Water Street, Brooklyn, NY, 11201). The flyer below shows where the starting point is.

  • The walk/run is slightly under 2 miles. Anyone who wants to do it twice and make it closer to four miles is welcome to.

  • All children who participate (17 and under) will get a medal. Everyone is welcome to pizza!

  • Please wear any of the neon yellow Running Stars apparel that has been given to you.

Course Description

We will be starting at Pier 1 and finishing at Pier 6. At the beginning of the run, you will run past a basketball court. Toward the end of the course, there will be a soccer field and a volleyball court. Once you run past the Fornino restaurant, which is shortly after the volleyball court, you will see a dock for the ferry at Pier 6. Once you reach the dock, you will turn around and head back to the starting point. Anyone who wants to do it twice will repeat these instructions. There are restrooms located throughout the park.

Youth stars Movie Event

On Sunday, April 11th 2021, Youth Stars partnered with AMC for a private movie event. Participants from all three programs were invited: our wellness program, our tutoring program, and our basketball program. All children and parents enjoyed complimentary popcorn and beverages. Goodie bags were provided from our generous sponsors. We also had a raffle event for parents and children at the end. Enjoy the photos below!

RUNNING STAR’S FIRST RUN!

Youth Stars would like to extend a huge thank you to everyone who came out to support our first walk-a-thon! We hosted a two mile run/walk at Flushing Meadow Park that looped around the lake and back.

We are very thankful for the great turn out, even with the frigid temperatures! Thank you to all who participated. It is important to us to continue to support the local community and give back. We look forward to holding more events in the future!

RUNNER’S HIGHLIGHT

Louis Nacer

The number 38 might not mean much to many, but for Louis Nacer it means a milestone. 38 is the amount of New York City marathons Louis has run. 1970 was the first race NYRR held, and in 1976, The New York Road Runners first introduced Five boroughs, where the running course introduced five bridges for the first time. 1980 was Louis’ first year participating in the New York City marathon. Louis is not only a legendary runner but a legendary person for many other reasons besides his longevity as a runner.

Youth Stars CEO and Founder, Paul Cedeno, participated in the second annual “Christmas in Brooklyn: Toy Give Away.” This event consists of hours of fun, free gift giving, and giving back to the community. Youth Stars provided about 100 draw string bags with goodies.

Happy Holidays from the Youth Stars team!
